English Focus

English Focus is a two-level coursebook series for teenage learners. It aims to teach realistic, functional English through a wide range of materials including reading passages, listening exercises and student interaction, and provides thorough work on language skills and vocabulary development.

• Simple format which fits easily into a classroom teaching schedule
• Presents English that can be used in real-life situations
• Carefully-controlled vocabulary input, vocabulary and word-
building exercises
• Speaking tasks practising the language students need for social
• Varied writing tasks, including 'Writing Projects'
• Full-colour Activity Book (eight pages per unit) with
communication tasks as well as consolidation exercises

Each coursebook unit consists of four 2-page sections (e.g. 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d). Each section begins with either a dialogue or a reading passage ('Listen and then read') - or a mixture of both. This is followed by comprehension questions and discussion points ('About You', 'Discussion').

Each unit focuses on a different theme and language topic (see syllabus below). Unit features and activities include

• Grammar summaries, with useful notes in table form and practice exercises
• Language development exercises, always including 'Speaking' and 'Vocabulary Development'
• Summaries of important language points ('Language Corner', 'Enrich your English', 'What's the
Difference?', 'Enrich your Vocabulary', 'Common Errors', etc.), which focus on usage, differences
between words, suffixes and prepositions.

Every third unit of each book is a shorter, two-page unit introducing a topic of interest regarding different countries and cultures. In Book 1, this unit contains extra speaking practice, while Book 2 gives extra listening tasks, a short 'Grammar Review' and a 'Writing Project' (e.g. letter writing).

Every main unit of the coursebook is also accompanied by eight pages of exercises in the Activity Book, providing plenty of practice and consolidation of the language and vocabulary in the syllabus.
